Last Second Shot by David West Lifts Hornets Over Grizzles in OT

MEMPHIS, Tenn., Nov. 16 (AP) — David West scored a career-high 40 points, including the go-ahead 15-footer with 8.3 seconds left in overtime, and the New Orleans Hornets beat the Memphis Grizzlies 120-118 on Friday night.

Chris Paul added 28 points and 13 assists in the victory, which ran the Hornets’ record to 8-2, the best start in franchise history. The win wasn’t assured until Memphis forward Rudy Gay missed an 11-footer with about 2 seconds left in overtime.

West was 17-of-29 from the field. Peja Stojakovic finished with 17 points and Bobby Jackson had 14. Tyson Chandler scored 12 points and grabbed 17 rebounds for the Hornets.

Juan Carlos Navarro led the Grizzlies with 28 points, going 8-of-9 from 3-point range. Gay and Pau Gasol finished with 20 points apiece, while Mike Miller had 13 points and nine rebounds.

Gay’s 3 point shot with 1.1 seconds left sent the game to overtime, but David West was not letting the Hornets drop this one as he scored all of the Hornets 6 overtime points to Memphis’s 2. The Hornets win 120-118 and improve to 8-2 on the season tied for first in the Southwest division with the San Antonio Spurs who are also 8-2 after beating the Houston Rockets 90-84.
